This is a rather short post but I don't know how else to phrase it. How will they handle resting and the spells per rest? The only thing I can give examples of is from Dungeons and Dragons Online and Neverwinter Nights. In DDO they have spell points with a set number that the spell costs and there rest shrine scattered in the quests. From what I know Neverwinter Nights has a certain number that you can cast a spell and its different for each spell. I think you can rest anywhere but don't quote me on that. I'm curious but then again I might not be caught up in recent events.

Don't think they have said anything, but you have 2 at-will powers, so don't think you have to rest for those; one daily which is the power that recharges after the bar (that in demo looked like a 20-sided die) is full. So I suppose we'd rest for the encounter powers, but I guess those will get some sort of cooldown.

from what i understand "resting" isn't gonna be part of the game, spells/abilities will just have individual timers
dunno for sure

The Neverwinter MMO is using a modified version of fourth edition DnD rules which are different from the 3rd edition ruleset that NWN1 and the interpretations of 3.5e rules used in NWN2 and DDO. In 4th edition pretty much all powers/spells/abilities are broken down into At-wills, Encounter, and Daily. At-wills are your bread and butter Magic Missile type spells that you can use as many times as you like. Encounter powers are beefier, but you can only use that specific power once per fight/encounter, but you can use it later that day during another fight. Daily Powers are generally the big time heavy duty nukes and you can only use it once that day till you rest.
From previous press articles and videos Cryptic is reworking the standard pen and paper rules for a more fast pace and exciting playstyle. Mainly, no more resting to recover powers. At-will powers are bound to the left and right mouse keys and be used when ever you want. Encounter powers are defaulted to the Q and E keys and and are on a 10sec cooldown or at least they were during the playtest in in April/2012. Daily powers can only be used after you fill up a charge meter by attacking and stuff.

05-24-2012, 04:18 PM #5There's a form of resting in the game, but it's not needed to memorize new spells.
Since we're basing gameplay off of 4th Ed. Rules, this means that you'll have "At-Will" powers, which you can always use, "Encounter" powers, which will be on a short cool down timer, and "Daily" powers, which can only be used after a longer period of time.
Thanks,

Without having actually seen how powers and cooldowns work yet, I really like the idea of how 4th edition and Neverwinter is going to handle this.
One thing I really didn't like about DDO was the very one off feeling of spell use. It made playing spell casters feel very limited.

I'm guessing not, but I'd like to know that.

05-28-2012, 06:33 AM #10Nop, encounter have lets say 10 sec cool down and Daily will be recharge according to ur character role, think wizard will recharge their daily according to the amount of dmg he deals, rogues for sneak, fighters for taking dmg and leaders for healing ?!?
As far i understood from dev interviews "resting" will be needed to change ur encounters, utilities and daily powers.
